The Beach

"I don't know...just a story," Kazuki murmured, he laid down on the boulder as he put his arms behinds his head.

Mereni nodded and said, "OK. How about that a long time ago, there was a fisherman out in the ocean. He hadn't catch a fish yet and he needed to, for his family back at the main land were starving." She looked at the ocean and thought for a minute.

Kazuki nodded, waiting for Mereni to continue her story.

"It was going on about dusk, when a giant storm hit the fisherman, causing his boat to be hit by huge waves. One of the waves, manage to break the boat apart and the fisherman went under. He was going to drown, when a mermaid came by and brought him to a small nearby island." Mereni smiled and laid down. "When the fisherman, came to, he looked at the mermaid and said, "Thank you for saving me. Now I need to get back to my family and feed them." The mermaid shook her head and said, "I will not bring you back to your family. I saved you so now you must marry me."

"Talk about demanding," Kazuki muttered, he crossed his legs and relaxed a little.

Mereni laughed softly and replied, "Well this wasn't your typical mermaid. This one was like Cinderella's step-sisters. Nobody wanted to marry her, or even be her friend so she was lonely. The fisherman said, "I can't. I'm already marryed." So, the mermaid said, "No marriage, no deal." The man sighed and said, "Well, if you take me back to my family, I will visit you everyday, untill one of us dies." The mermaid thought about this deal. Finally she agreed to it and took the fisherman back home, but something wasn't right when he got home."

Kazuki stayed silent and waited for Mereni to continue. He imagine the pictures in his head.

"When he got home, his wife had remarried, thinking that the fisherman was dead. The fisherman was sooo upset that he ran to the mermaid and said, "I will marry you. My wife had betrayed me and now I am lonely too."" continued Mereni. She thought for a minute and sighed.

"Does this story have a happy ending?" Kazuki asked, blinking lightly at he sat up to look at the ocean.

Mereni shrugged and sat up as well. "Well it depends on your point of view. The mermaid found someone to love but it wasn't the right way to do it. Or not because the fisherman just used the mermaid as a rebound."

"Well I guess it's both...," Kazuki murmured, he looked at the sky. "Would you do that to Akihiko if you thought he died?" he asked, looking at Mereni with his deep blue eyes.

Mereni looked at Kazuki with her own topaz eyes. "No. I wouldn't. I think I wouldn't be able to get over Akihiko."

Kazuki smiled, he was happy that Akihiko found a nice girl like Mereni. He looked up at the sky, "Why wouldn't you?"

"Because....I love him" Mereni replied and looked at the ocean, sliently praying that Akihiko was alright.

"Good," Kazuki said, he looked at his phone when he felt it vibrate. He shook his head and giggled a little.

Mereni raised an eyebrow and asked, "What?"

"Akihiko said and I quote his exact text 'Try anything funny with Mereni and you'll be sleeping with hobos'...haha My Hiko-kun is funny," Kazuki mused, he laughed lightly. "Oh and he also said that he is fine and he's meeting some kids that will join in the business once he's boss."

Mereni laughed softly and laid back. "He should already know that you wouldn't try anything. And he should have a little bit mor faith in me." She smiled, now knowing that he was doing fine.

"He does have faith in you," Kazuki said, smiling. "..but he also knows that I'm amazingly irresistible " he joked, running a hand through his hair before he smirked teasingly at Mereni.

Mereni smirked back and teased, "Is that why your grandmother put dresses on you?"

"Yes. Yes it was," Kazuki said, blinking, but then turned the other way making a 'hmph' sound. "You're just jealous cause you were never put in dress like I was."

Mereni laughed and said, "I'm not a dress person but I wear them to tease Akihiko." She smiled at the warmth of the sun.

"Tease Akihiko?" Kazuki asked, tilting his head. "What for?"

Mereni smirked and said, "Because he's reactions are funny. He'll glare playfully at me and say 'We are school Mereni...'"

"Ah~ you guys had more than fun over at France huh?" Kazuki mused, giggling lightly. "Tsk tsk...you are in school..you and Akihiko need to keep your hormones in check," he said, shaking his head.
